Academic staff in Italian Higher Education system: Gender distribution

The presentation analyzes the distribution of academic staff by age group in Italian universities. The analysis shows that academic staff under the age of 45 is strongly decreasing. Between 2012 and 2018 academic staff generally decreased by 6 %, whereas academic staff under the age of 35 decreased by 18 % and those between the age of 35 and 45 decreased by 19 %. On the contrary, associate professors over the age of 45 increased following the Extraordinary Plan for the Recruitment of
Associate Professors: between 2012 and 2018 associate professors under the age of 35 increased by 75 % and those between the age of 35 and 45 increased by 61%.
